May 2009

A big thank you to all who helped to make the "Paws In The Park" fundraiser dog walk such a success.

We raised $760.00 dollars through this fun event. What a wonderful blessing it was. We had so many who participated and provide of their own time and we so appreciate it. It was a fun day for all, full of reunions with animals saved over the last 5 years. It is an amazing thing to meet families and pets that are so appreciative of our efforts because their family has been touched so deeply by the animal they adopted from us.

We all have so much going on with kids being out of school and summer vacations, but no matter the time of year, there are still animals who depend on us to save their lives.
Lately we have seen so many animals come through that have been abused, neglected and discarded. It affects the animal as much as it does us. We pray there will be a day when animals are not seen as expendable objects but as what they are, living breathing beings, capable of undying love and affection. They feel, they hurt, and they are in need of love. When you step back and look at the big picture, they are not so different from so many of us.

Help "Gus"

Gus is a sweet boy who is in our program as a result of abuse and neglect. He was hit by a car and suffered a broken leg. He suffered with pain and being unable to walk on his leg for a week. His owners did nothing to help him and he found his way to a neighbors yard. The neighbor called Animal Control and was informed the dog would have to be put down. They are not equipped to deal with injured animals. Luckily the neighbor had work with animal rescue groups before in Texas and she called us. It is a lot for a non-profit rescue group to take on an injured abused animal that requires surgery and rehabilitation but Gus is such a sweet guy that Dr. Stark really wanted to help us save him. Gus made it through his surgery and is currently doing great and working on rehabilitation. His leg was saved and he will have a chance at a second life. Sadly his mother that was still at the home where he was neglected disappeared after Animal Control paid them a visit and they now claim to not know what happened to her. It is an unfortunate story and most likely rather than get her vetted, she was killed and discarded. We have raised $300.00 so far toward the vet bill for Gus but have a long way to go, if you would like to help with his bill, please email Susan at
lapaw@bellsouth.net

A big thanks to his foster mom Kise for the great job she is doing!  Keep checking back for his progress and to follow his journey to a new home. The story with photos should be posted on our Blog page by June 14th.

Please remember our Adoption Days at PetSmart every Saturday for noon until 3pm. If you can help out please come by or email us. Every little bit counts with us and your help will not go unnoticed. With the heat of summer we are having to walk the dogs often and make sure they stay cool so the more hands available, the better for the animals.

We will be having our monthly meeting at Piccadilly on Ryan Street at 6pm June 29th.
Please come for 5:30 if you wish to eat. Thanks.

Adoptions have picked up and we have been blessed once again this month to save some wonderful lives.

The world of Animal Rescue is a world of ups and downs. This month we were abundantly blessed. Three of our long time foster finally found their perfect forever families. What joy we had in seeing them with their wonderful new families.

A big WELCOME to our new Publicity Coordinator Destinie and our newest Adoption Advisor Karen. So glad to have you on board.

Our orphaned puppies are thriving and foster mom Heather is awesome. Thanks so much for giving your heart to save these precious lives.
